A black jaguar at a Central Valley sanctuary died after being bitten twice by a rattlesnake.
Dale Anderson, founder of Project Survival's Cat Haven, told KNX News’ Karen Adams that he believes a rattlesnake went into 14-year-old Samba’s den and bit her twice. Samba was rushed to the vet clinic, given anti-venom, but never woke up from the anesthesia.
“We've never had this happen,” he said. “ We've been operating 28 years, and we've never lost a cat to a snake bite.”
He said they're waiting on a necropsy to see if Samba had any underlying health issues that contributed to her death.
