RIALTO, Calif. (KNX) – The driver involved in a deadly, fiery Rialto crash was driving 80 to 100 mph while possibly under the influence, investigators say.
The collision occurred Monday, just before 6:30 p.m., in the 100 block of West Valley Boulevard. Rialto Police responded to multiple calls regarding a crash involving multiple cars.

Upon arriving, officers found a Kia Sorento and a Jeep Cherokee set ablaze, with several other cars damaged. A mother and her daughter were found trapped inside the Kia Sorento. Bystanders sprang into action to help extinguish the fire.
Despite attempts from officers to save the two, both were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was also pronounced dead. Two additional drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Prior to the fatal collision, officers said the Jeep Cherokee sideswiped into a Chevrolet Silverado near the Willow Avenue section. Police told KABC that the driver of the Chevrolet saw the Jeep speed away and crash into the Kia, noting that they did not see the Jeep’s brake lights turn on before striking the Kia, which was stopped at a red light.
“Due to the excessive speed of the Jeep, the momentum carried the Kia into the back of a Honda and four additional vehicles were subsequently involved in the collision,” police said.
Investigators said beer cans found in the Jeep and the lack of skid marks on the street indicated the driver was under the influence and did not try to slow down prior to the crash.
