A fisherman making his way through a Louisiana river spotted a rare sight as a pair of pink dolphins made their way through the water next to his boat.

The fisherman, Thurman Gustin, caught the dolphins on video and shared it to his Facebook, where it has since gone viral.

In the video, one of the rare dolphins could be seen popping out of the water before diving back underneath.

“As we were going, I noticed something just under the water that I knew wasn’t normal. I [stopped] the boat, and up popped this beautiful pink dolphin,” Gustin shared with CBS News.

Gustin, a native of Houston, Texas, shared that the dolphins were just two of several that had been swimming in the area.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, there is a species of pink dolphin known as the pink river dolphin, which is known to live in freshwater river basins across South America.

However, the dolphins in the Gustin caught on camera are believed to be bottlenose dolphins, which are often found in the Gulf of Mexico, which borders the river.

While the bottlenose dolphin is typically gray, the Blue World Institute reports that pink and white variations of the animal exist but are rare and often seen among those that have albinism.

“Albino dolphins are uncommon and therefore attract human attention leading to some of them being unfortunately captured and held captive,” the Institute said.

As for Gustin, he shared that seeing the pink dolphin was just another example of the beauty of nature.

“I love nature,” Gustin said. “...always be inspired by nature. It’s God’s way of saying hello.”
