A San Bernardino man has become the first known California victim of a coronavirus variant that was first found in Brazil.
Health officials say that diagnosis was only confirmed this weekend, although the man first tested positive for COVID almost two weeks ago and has been isolating at home since then.
It's not clear yet how he caught the Brazilian variant -- which is believed to be more contagious than the original virus -- but not necessarily more dangerous.
So far, the variants still seem to be responding to current vaccines.
