SAN DIEGO (KNX) — The San Diego County Board of Supervisors swore in Anthony Ray as interim sheriff during a Tuesday morning ceremony.
Ray took the oath of office promising to do his “absolute best” until January 2023, when the winter of the November general election will take over.

"I'm just humbled and grateful for this opportunity, and I thank you so much," he said.
Ray was selected by the board in March to replace Bill Gore. Gore resigned as San Diego County sheriff in February after serving 12 years on the job.
Ray, a 30-year veteran of the department, oversaw courts and human resources before his appointment.
Seeking the permanent sheriff’s post in November are Undersheriff Kelly Martinez, former sheriff’s Commander David Myers, Assistant San Diego City Attorney John Hemmerling, and Dep. Kenneth Newsom.
