The National Weather Service said on Wednesday that winds in the mountains would have gusts between 50 to 70 miles per hour. The San Gabriel Valley and the Los Angeles coastal and metro area will be under a less severe wind advisory until noon
A high wind warning will be in effect in the Antelope Valley, Catalina Island, Malibu Coast, Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys, Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and San Gabriel Mountains until 12 p.m.
The Los Angeles coastal and metro area, however, will be under a less severe wind advisory until noon as gusts will be between 40 to 50 miles per hour.
Dave Bruno with the National Weather Service told KNX News’ Jon Baird the strong winds are due to a lack of pacific moisture.
“So they're very dry - cold fronts- which is why we're mostly getting the strong winds and low temperatures,” he said.
In addition to the winds, snowfall was expected in the I-5 Corridor through the Grapevine area.
