A body in the trunk of a car led deputies to shoot the driver dead and arrest another in Chino Hills.
Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 2100 block of Monteverde Dr. after getting reports of gunshots and screaming inside a home.
Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Gloria Orejel said two people had shot a person in the home and put them in the trunk of their car.
“Responding deputies located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop,” she said. “The driver failed to yield, and a short pursuit began.”
She said the chase came to an end a mile and a half away.
“The trunk was open when he exited the vehicle and fired a shot into the trunk, and apparently there was a victim inside there that had been kidnapped from the Monteverde address,” Orejel said.
Deputies then shot the suspect. The victim in the trunk was pronounced dead; however, Orejel said it's not clear when the victim died because they were shot before they were put in the trunk.
The passenger of the car surrendered and was taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
