The family of an 18-year-old woman who was shot by a school safety officer in Long Beach said she would be taken off life support in 24 to 72 hours.

Initially, the family announced she would be taken off life support on Thursday, but during a press conference Friday, they said it would happen in the next 24 to 72 hours. Family members also said they would be donating their sister's organs before she is taken off life support.

The hospital informed the family of 18-year-old Mona Rodriguez on Wednesday that she would remain on life support for another 24 hours, after which she would be disconnected. Relatives were told she was "brain dead" and had little hope for recovery—still, they have pleaded with hospital administrators to keep her alive.

"Even if there's a small chance that she's still alive, they need to keep her alive," Michael Carillo, an attorney representing Rodriguez's family, told KNX.

Rodriguez, a Long Beach local, was shot near Millikan High School earlier this week after a safety officer employed by the Long Beach Unified School District responded to an alleged altercation between her and a 15-year-old girl.

Rodriguez was reportedly shot from behind after jumping into a car with her boyfriend, who was driving away from the scene.

Carillo said he was calling on California Attorney General Rob Bonta to investigate the incident. The family said they wanted charges filed against the officer involved.

During Friday's press conference, the family called again for the officer's arrest and prosecution.

"I don't wish death on the person who killed my sister. All I want is for him to see what justice feels like," Oscar Rodriguez, the brother of Mona Rodriguez.

As of Wednesday, both the Long Beach police and L.A. County District Attorney's Office were still investigating the matter.

The school safety officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. KNX has reached out to the Long Beach Unified School District for further comment and will update this story with additional information as it is received.

Rodriguez is survived by her five-month-old son.
