Tom Cruise is the reason "Top Gun: Maverick" finally got made.  Director Jerry Bruckheimer has always wanted to make a sequel to the 1986 original but couldn't seem to get off the ground. Tom Cruise was able to get it done with one phone call to the head of Paramount.  Joseph Kosinski, who directed Tom Cruise in "Oblivion," wowed everyone with his pitch for the long-awaited sequel, and it was then, according to Jerry, that "Tom…pulled out his phone and called the head of Paramount at that time and said, 'I want to make another Top Gun.' And that was it." On top of that, Tom made them agree to only release the film in theaters – no streaming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. When asked if he faced any pressure to release the movie onto a streaming service, he laughed, saying, "That was not going to happen ever. That was never going to happen." "Top Gun: Maverick" hits theaters next Friday.

Nick Cannon has admitted he's had a consultation for a vasectomy, according to the Daily Mail. Nick has seven children, with another on the way. If the reports are to be believed, Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly are both back on the market and have been for a while. She'd rather be single than waste her time with the wrong guy."

Taylor Swift received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from New York University yesterday when she spoke to graduates at their commencement at Yankee Stadium. She said, "I'd like to thank NYU for making me, technically, on paper at least, a doctor - not the type of doctor you would want around in case of an emergency. Unless your specific emergency was that you desperately needed to hear a song with a catchy hook."

Johnny Depp's defamation trial against Amber Heard continued yesterday with testimony from a couple of her friends, her sister, and her makeup artist. Here's what we learned…

- Raquel "Rocky" Pennington described the injuries she say, describing "very, very long, deep" cuts on Amber's forearms and similar injuries to her feet.

- Joshua Drew said he'd heard Johnny yell at Amber, but never saw him actually abuse her.

- Amber's younger sister, Whitney Henriquez, said she witnessed Johnny grab her sister by the hair and hit her in the face repeatedly.

- Amber's makeup artist also testified about how she had to cover Amber's bruises with makeup and give her red lipstick to wear during appearances to cover the lip damage.

"General Hospital" star Kelly Monaco, aka Sam McCall, lost her home to a fire on Friday the 13th. According to TMZ, Kelly said she woke up to a raging fire in her front yard, which quickly spread to the house. She was about to get out, but the house suffered quite a bit of damage. Cameras show that the fire was started by someone tossing a lit cigarette butt on the empty lot next to her home. She pointed out to her fans, "Something as little as a cigarette butt can cause casualties and devastation."

Cardi B showed a fan how she doesn't let her super long nails get in the way of a diaper change. When a fan tweeted, "how the hell u change a diaper with the nails," Cardi responded, "Okay girl sooo I just made a whole video. Trust me you will get the hang of it! However I do feel like boys are harder to clean, they got more crevices." In the video, Cardi changes a teddy bear without letting her stiletto-shaped nails get in the way. Her daughter was standing by watching, a little confused as to why her mom was changing a teddy bear and not her little brother.

As the $50 million defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp continues, new information has come about Amber's relationship with Elon Musk. Amber and the Elon started dating after meeting at the Met Gala in 2016, shortly after she filed for divorce from Johnny. Radar reports that Jennifer Howell, the former boss of Amber's sister, Whitney Henriquez, claimed that in a conversation with Amber's mother, "Paige told me that Amber said Elon was controlling, abusive, and that she was in a legal battle with him over the rights to embryos that they had created together." It's said Elon wanted them destroyed, but Amber wanted to keep them. Jennifer also claimed, "Paige also told me the reason Johnny and Amber broke up was because Amber was violent and emotional and loved Johnny so much that she could not control it." Amber welcomed daughter Oonagh Paige, 1, via surrogate in April 2021, but she has never revealed who the father is or if he is involved in the baby's life.

"Uncut Gems" actress Julia Fox went grocery shopping the other day in her underwear. She wore a matching black bra and underwear set with an oversized jean jacket and jean boots.  In her Instagram story, she wrote, "I think that if it's socially acceptable at the beach, it should be the same everywhere, lol." She then posted a slideshow of pics from her outing, writing, "My vibe is just preparing for the apocalypse rn." You would think shoppers would be shocked, but it's probably just another day in L.A.

Tiffany Haddish isn't bald anymore, but she said that shaving her head made her feel "the most alive I ever felt." She shaved her head to help her figure out who she was, explaining, "It's really important to know who you are, to know every nook and cranny of your body, and that's the one part of my body I didn't know." She called being bald "Baby, best feeling I ever felt in my whole entire life, the most sensations I ever felt, the most alive I ever felt." She told Byrdie Magazine she especially enjoyed when it rained, saying that the raindrops "felt like a billion, million kisses from God" and she "could feel every raindrop go through [her] whole body."

Victoria Beckham has always been a stick, but she thinks the idea of "really thin" is an "old-fashioned attitude." She said, "I think women today want to look healthy and curvy. They want to have some boobs and a bum," but in the end, "It's not about being a certain size. It's about knowing who you are and being happy with who you are. I've found my own balance between wanting to have fun and being disciplined about eating and working out. When you're younger you fight against that balance, but through being older, I've reached a place where I know what that balance looks like. I just know what works for me." We're guessing balance looks like a personal trainer, personal chef, and billions of dollars.
