An Austin, Texas man has been found alive after he went missing on the trails of the tallest mountain in the Sierra Nevada late last week.
Edward Lee Alderman was found "several miles west" of snowy Mt. Whitney's summit near Timberline Lake on Sunday afternoon, according to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks officials. He's "alert, despite injuries, fatigue, and exposure to sub-freezing temperatures," a news release added.
Hikers reported hearing a voice in the area early Sunday, leading to his recovery. "We are thrilled and relieved to report that Mr. Alderman is alive, safe, and on his way to definitive medical care," said Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Incident Commander Dave Fox.
He was evacuated via a helicopter for medical care.
Alderman, 33, was last seen Thursday after he and a hiking partner separated somewhere near the summit.
An initial ground search was delayed due to a winter storm in the Sierra Nevada on Friday and Saturday.
