Voting for the 2023 GRAMMY Awards are underway and you may notice some big holes in the nomination list. Drake, The Weeknd and Silk Sonic have all made the decision to withhold their eligible, solo projects from GRAMMY consideration.

This will be The Weeknd’s second year boycotting the GRAMMYs after his 2020 album, After Hours and its many successful singles were not recognized with nominations.

“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the GRAMMYs,” he said of his decision to boycott.

Drake has had beef with the Academy since 2017 when his single, “Hotline Bling” failed to be listed in any Pop categories. Instead, the single was nominated in the Rap category, which Drake didn’t see as appropriate.

While Drake and The Weeknd will not be listed on the ballot with solo projects, they both received nods as part of collaborations with other artists.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic, who took home four GRAMMYs in 2022, have also decided to withdraw from consideration for their project, An Evening With Silk Sonic.

According to The Fader, Mars said the duo “would like to gracefully, humbly, and, most importantly, sexually, bow out.”

Voting for the 2023 GRAMMYs is currently underway. The winners are scheduled to be revealed during the ceremony scheduled for February 5, 2023.
