The one feel good story of 2020.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Wednesday that they have given left winger Oskar Lindblom a three-year contract extension. The contract has an average annual value of $3 million.

Lindblom, 23, was in the midst of a breakout season (11 goals, 7 assists in 30 games) when he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma -- a rare type of cancer that occurs in the bones or in the soft tissue around the bones. On July 2nd, Lindblom finished his treatments and was deemed cancer free.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Flyers for the next three seasons," said Lindblom via the Flyers' website. "The support that the organization, the fans, and the entire NHL has given me has been quite overwhelming. I can't wait to get back skating with the boys and being the professional hockey player I know I can be. I want to thank the Flyers for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to the day I'm back and contributing to the team's success."

Lindblom was originally selected by the Flyers in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The 6'1" winger has 30 goals and 27 assists in 134 games with the Flyers over the last three seasons.

Lindblom and the Flyers will get back on the ice in an exhibition game against the Penguins on Tuesday, July 28th. The 2019-20 season will resume on Sunday, August 2nd against the Bruins.
