Brian Dawkins was asked about Jalen Hurts entering his third full season as Eagles starting QB and if the coaching staff needs to dial back the rushing attempts.
"I think at his point it's because of the talent that he has around him at this point," Dawkins told his ex-teammate Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show live at Ron Jaworski's Celebrity Golf Challenge. "I think before, he didn't necessarily all of the talent that he has around him right now. To add his running ability still into the mix is a plus, major plus, but I just don't see them force feeding that over and over again like they did a couple of years ago.
"You don't want to tell him anything as far as not running the football. You just don't call as many run plays, so when it happens—the thing that's called the X play for a lot of people. It's uncoached, it's unscripted and he just keeps the football like Hugh was talking about...man to man coverage and he runs for 30 yards."
B-Dawk is excited about the young, talented Eagles' defense, but cautions lofty expectations.
"You are very optimistic, but you are not over the top," Dawkins said. "Like they're going to be the first game, running full speed and everybody's on pace. There's going to be some mistakes made, there's going to be some growing pains, but the potential for every position right now—and if those guys gel together quickly, like they did last year to be honest with you, the sky is the limit for this defense."
Jon Runyan, Scott Franzke, and Ron Jaworski himself also joined today's 94WIP Midday Show live from the event.
