On Sunday morning, ESPN reported that Carson Wentz will likely look to find his way to a new team this offseason if Jalen Hurts remains the starter. One of several teams identified as a good match was the Indianapolis Colts. Reuniting Wentz with Frank Reich sounds like the perfect situation for the quarterback, who excelled under the former Eagles offensive coordinator in his first two seasons.
However, that might be a pipe dream according to ESPN's Dan Orlovsky.
"My opinion of Carson Wentz to Indy has changed over the last week," said Orlovsky on the Pat McAfee Show. "I had a conversation with someone who is pretty tied in and knows and he doesn't think that's even remotely a chance. I don't think that's realistic."
The change in opinion is notable considering Orlovsky's sourcing and his comments last week that identified the Colts as one of the top four teams Wentz could end up.
"A lot of people think there's a lot of built up animosity between him and the organization in Philly," said Orlovsky last Thursday. "I think a lot of people think he misses Frank Reich as a human more than just a play caller.
I think a lot of people feel that Carson Wentz feels betrayed and the only person in the NFL that he trusts is Frank Reich."
The other three times on his list were the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Detroit Lions.
McAfee, a former punter for the Colts, was overjoyed when hearing the news and Orlovsky went back to defending Wentz, something he has done throughout his career:
"I still think he can play, 100%. I've said this, you have to figure out where he is mentally. Does he want to play football still? Where is his self doubt after what happened in 2017 and 2018, it's like watching someone else take your family to Disney World… Is he confident in his ability anymore? You have to figure that stuff out. I think those are real conversations for him."
