Jason Kelce not buying excuses about Eagles' collapse: 'That’s all just nonsense'

For Jason Kelce, the Eagles’ issue simply boil down to a lack of execution.

Most of the other excuses as to why things have gone awry for Philly appear to be, in his view, nonsense.

The Eagles have been in a freefall to end the season, going a woeful 1-5 down the stretch – including losses to bad Giants and Cardinals teams. That resulted in them coughing away the NFC East lead despite once controlling their own destiny, and now they begin the playoffs on the road in Tampa.

The offense has sputtered and the defense has been porous. It’s tough to be optimistic as they gear up to face the Bucs, a remarkable thought when you consider the Eagles started the season 10-1.

Perhaps there’s an argument that Philly went on cruise control and fell apart, but Eagles captain Jason Kelce told the 94WIP Morning Show he’s not buying that or any other excuse.

“As for the comments of maybe guys are sitting around waiting for the postseason, I don’t know if that’s true,” Kelce said. “Only each and every guy knows if that’s true, and I have not thought that for a second. I think, to be quite frank, when you’re losing games and you are trying to find out reasons why, or you’re struggling and you’re trying to think of what can be it, there’s all sorts of things you can reach for. Sometimes you reach for these things that are a little bit more gray.

“And I think that we’re not tucking our shirts in at practice, we’re waiting around for the postseason – to me that’s all just nonsense, to be honest with you. The reason you’re not winning is because you’re not executing and the plays aren’t working out. Everybody just needs to come together and do a better job of that.

“Whenever I start hearing coaches or other people in the building, players, fans, whenever I hear these kinds of excuses that aren’t – we’re talking about very minor effects on the outcome of the game. It really is disheartening when I hear that stuff.

“I’m just talking in general, I haven’t heard anything like that, but I just think in general when you start looking at all these really minor, little things, all these little – I just don’t know that you’re, first of all, going to make that big of a difference in the outcome and affecting the things that are greatly going to increase your chance of winning.”
