Jalen Hurts was ranked as the NFL's second worst starting quarterback heading into 2021, according to Pro Football Focus. Drew Lock of the Denver Broncos is the only starting QB ranked worse than Hurts.
"Hurts must manage the game with better decision-making," PFF's Bruce Gradkowski writes. "He finished the season with nine turnover-worthy plays in the last four games. If Hurts wants to be the guy in Philadelphia, then he needs to protect the ball better."
NFL insiders seem to indicate the Eagles are not committed to Hurts, as Philadelphia continues to pop up as one of—if not the—favorites to land Deshaun Watson in a trade.
Interestingly, former Eagles QB Carson Wentz was ranked 23rd on PFF's list.
"He was playing lights-out in key situations, with a 91.9 grade on third and fourth downs and a passer rating of 125.0 with 16 touchdowns in those situations," Gradkowski writes. "Coaching plays a big role in key situations, so the Colts have some reason to think Wentz will play better under Frank Reich."
On Wednesday, James Seltzer (filling in for Joe DeCamara) and Jon Ritchie discussed the rankings on the 94WIP Midday Show and asked fans on Twitter who is the better QB between Hurts and Wentz. Two out of every three fans chose Wentz.
