Giglio: 'Eagles need to be careful' with Saquon Barkley

Joe Giglio believes the Philadelphia Eagles need to be careful with their new toy in Saquon Barkley.

"In the last six years, he has played 16 games in a season one time," Giglio said on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show. "This year, the hope for the Eagles is what, 20 games? It might be 21 games. "He's averaged 248 touches per season. He had 26 in Week 1...The Eagles need to be careful on this."

Barkley had 24 carries and two catches in the Eagles' Week 1 win racking up 132 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns earning NFC Player of the Week honors.

If Barkley, a 27-year-old two-time Pro Bowler, maintains his 26 touch Week 1 workload for 17 regular season games this season he'll end the campaign with 442 touches, eclipsing his previous high of 352 touches (2018, 2022) by 90.

"I think we do a really good job of managing that here," Barkley said on Thursday. "I have no worry about that and to be honest that's why I train the way I do in the offseason."

Hugh Douglas disagrees with his co-host and is not worried about Barkley's workload.

"Let Saquon play," Douglas said on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show. "Go back and watch the game and watch his runs. Not a lineman really touched him but a couple times.

"Happy medium. I want Saquon Barkley to carry the ball as the game dictates."
