The Eagles opening game against the Washington Football Team is just four days away and despite the offseason challenges the coronavirus pandemic has caused, Carson Wentz feels like this is one of the best offenses he has worked with in his career.
The fifth year quarterback joined Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Show to talk about this upcoming season and the Eagles Radiothon. Wentz gave some insight into whether he thinks this team has the best offensive weapons he has worked with:
"I think as far as explosiveness and beating everything, I would probably say yes. We have a lot of guys that have the ability to create big plays in a hurry, a lot of these young guys especially. I think it will be fun to continue growing with them. It was a bit of a bumpy offseason together but I feel like we have made really good strides working together."
"I would say as far as explosiveness and everything, this is as explosive of an offense that I have been apart of."
Wentz also talked about the final weeks of the 2019 season and how that has led to a boost in confidence coming into this year.
"I think I learned more in those four weeks than I did in at any other time in my first four years. It was just a really challenging moment on so many fronts, felt like the cards were stacked against us. I think everyone just rose to the occasion and found a way to win. I think I learned a lot about myself and this team. Like you said, I have a lot of confidence in myself."
Last year, Wentz dealt with a rotating cast at wide receiver and running back, and even missed Zach Ertz at times. In Game 16, Wentz threw to four receivers who were on the practice squad for the majority of the season. Yet the 27-year-old led the Eagles to the playoffs for the third straight year despite the fringe weapons available to him. This year, he expects to do the same.
"I think every year we feel that way. We have high expectations. No matter what our roster looks like, those are my expectations. My expectations are to be playing into January. I like the pieces we have in place, but it's a long season and we have a lot of work to do."
