Sidney Crosby placed on COVID list, will miss Tuesday's game vs. Flyers

Team cancelled morning practice before Tuesday night game with Flyers

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pens captain Sidney Crosby is out Tuesday night for a big match-up with the Flyers. Crosby is on the NHL COVID protocol list, but the team hinted it may just be because of contact tracing.

Head coach Mike Sullivan informed the media Tuesday morning, “Sid will not be available for tonight's game. He will be listed on the NHL's COVID protocol list. We didn't have a morning skate this morning due to the NHL's COVID protocol."

“It’s tough,” said Sullivan . “We all know how good a player he is and the impact he has just with his game. Just the impact he has on their dressing room and on the bench. He’s an influential player for us in so many areas.”

“He’s not an easy guy to replace by any stretch.  We have been through this experience in the past and have found ways to have success.”

Crosby has played in all 20 games this season with 18 points.  Evgeni Malkin is averaging over a point per game when Crosby has missed in the past.

Sullivan said there are a number of guys who can fill-in and play center including Jared McCann and Sam Lafferty.

“It should provide opportunities for others to step up,” Sullivan said.

Tuesday night’s game at PPG Paints Arena is the first one with fans allowed back inside for the first time in nearly a year.
