Garrett Stubbs on potential return of 'Dancing On My Own': 'Staple for guys in locker room'

The biggest burning question facing the 2024 Philadelphia Phillies that every fan needs to know: Should the team bring back their theme song, 'Dancing On My Own?'

"I'll say this, I think it has become a staple for the guys in this locker room," Phillies backup catcher aka "Chiefs Vibe Officer" Garrett Stubbs told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie live on the 94WIP Morning Show from Clearwater on Monday morning.

"We tried to get rid of it last year," Stubbs admitted. "It is a personality that has been built kind off of the guys that are in this locker room right now and we've been very lucky to bring a lot of the same players back the last two years, which isn't the case around the league...So, it's been the personality of our team the last two years."

Ritchie, who believes the Phils should dump the song, asked Stubbs if he's ever listened to the actual lyrics of 'Dancing On My Own' by Calum Scott.

"They lyrics I totally get, I totally understand," Stubbs admitted. "I promise you look up in the stands, you look at the players and everyone has a good vibe to them, everyone has a good feeling. And I know the losses have left people with a bad taste in their mouth, but I'm sorry. Going to the World Series—I know losing sucks in the World Series. I know losing in general sucks. Our goal every single year no matter what, going into playoffs, going into the season, is to win the last game of the season and hold the trophy at the end. But what we've accomplished the last two years shouldn't just be thrown to the side. We've done some incredible things these last two years with this team, with almost exact same team coming back. So I think there is a lot of positive things that come with that song.

"Whether it stays or not, I always think the fan base has a huge part of what we do as far as the song goes, as far things that come back—you know the overalls last year."

Fans and media have weighed in on the debate throughout the entire offseason.

Almost 70-percent of fans voted to "dump" in a February 94WIP Morning Show poll on X, which has gathered nearly 9,000 votes.
