In the midst of his worst season in Major League Baseball, Trea Turner had his worst game as a Phillie on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Turner went 0-3 at the plate, committed two errors at shortstop, and was ejected in the 5th inning after arguing with the home plate umpire.
After his second error, Phillies fans booed Turner.
After the game, Turner was asked about hearing boos at home and he said he is confident in his ability as a baseball player and believes he is heading in the right direction.
"Feel good mentally, physically. Feel like I'm on the right track...I feel good. I feel like I'm headed in the right direction."
Joe DeCamara says he would undo the remainder of Trea Turner's 11-year, $300 million at the end of the 2023 season if he could, right now.
"You know what is left on this deal? After this year, 10 years and $272 million," DeCamara said. "It's predicated on let's take that $272 mil put it, place it briefly in John Middleton's pocket and position it within a month or two to a different player, or players, to try to be a better team. Would I undo it if I could? Yes, I would."
"This gets rash. Yes, we take this seriously," Jon Ritchie argued. "We get emotional. We are emotional about Trea Turner. Trea Turner is emotional about Trea Turner! It has reached a breaking point."
Turner, in his first season as a Phillie after signing an 11-year, $300 million contract this offseason, is hitting a career low .247 through 98 games with just 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. Turner's .300 on-base percentage is also a career low and his .387 slugging percentage is his lowest mark since his rookie season, which consisted of just 44 plate appearances.
Turner has a -1.1 win probability added for an offensive player. He's never finished a season with a negative WPA.
