NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Costco announced this week that it will become the latest retailer to begin administering COVID-19 vaccines.
The membership-based retailer released a statement saying it will be administering shots “as soon as they are available” at select locations in California, Oregon, Puerto Rico and New York City.
Costco says it expects to distribute the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines mainly.
Being a Costco member or employee will not provide an advantage in getting the vaccine, as the retailer has said it will be following eligibility guidelines in each state.
“Costco is firmly committed to helping protect the health and safety of our members and employees, and to serving our communities,” the company said in a statement.

Those seeking a vaccine at the retailer are advised not to contact their local store pharmacy to schedule appointments. Instead, customers should visit the store’s website to find out how to schedule an appointment.
In New York City, residents will still have to go through the state’s COVID-19 vaccine scheduling site to make an appointment.
Costco stores in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island are expected to receive a supply of the vaccine in coming weeks.
