So apparently Simone Biles’ boyfriend Jonathan Owens, was living under a rock, because he supposedly had no idea who the GOAT gymnast was until the two started dating. And while we find that incredibly shocking and somewhat concerning, we’re going to let it slide because he’s literally the most supportive bf ever and the two are relationship goals.

Biles and Owens have been together for over a year now, making their relationship IG official in August 2020, the two got together around March. At the time with the Summer Games officially postponed, the Olympic gold medalist suddenly had lots of unexpected free time and told Glamour, she decided to use some of that time on the celebrity dating app Raya. And after enough left swipes, Owens, a fellow athlete and Houston Texans footballer caught her eye.
Talking to Wall Street Journal Magazine about how their relationship got its start, Simone said, "He would say I slid into his DMs.” She continued, "I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi... and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
After their initial hang, the cuties continued chatting, and with a little bit of help from Simone’s younger sister, Adria, who had about enough after several weeks of watching Simone and Jonathan FaceTime, she took it upon herself to take over Simone’s phone during one of those conversation and invited Owens to join a family lake house trip. And the rest is adorable history.
"We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic,” Jonathan revealed to Texas Monthly. “It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger.” Which as it turns out, Jonathan had plenty to learn about Simone. "I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.”
Once he became aware, he joined the rest of the world in being in complete awe of her incredible talent. "Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye,” he said in Simone’s Facebook Watch docuseries Simone Vs Herself. “I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her."
These days, while Owens isn’t in the stands of the Tokyo Olympics due to covid restrictions, he is supportively cheering his girlfriend on from halfway across the world.
And when she can, Simone does the same, except with a much closer view.
Not that anybody asked, but we support this relationship as much as they support each other, and if that wasn’t already obvious, that’s A LOT.
