For the second consecutive year, an Ohio State pass rusher could be the first defensive player off the board in the NFL Draft.
Defensive end Chase Young is poised to follow in the footsteps of his former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa, who was selected second overall by the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s draft.
Young, like Bosa, is projected by many to also go No. 2 overall — to the Washington Redskins — and some argue that Young is actually the best overall player in the draft, which was also said about Bosa.
With so many similarities between the two, it is only natural that Young is seeking his former Ohio State teammate for advice as he gets ready to embark on his NFL career.
“Nick actually texted me this morning and congratulated me about the day and what was about to go down later,” Young said on an appearance with “Boomer and Gio” of WFAN in New York.
Yet, Young said most of the advice he sought from Bosa was not football-related, but rather about what to expect outside of the game.
“I definitely talk to Nick about a lot of things, mainly off the field things, with friends, families and just stuff I didn’t know off the field. But I asked Nick a lot about the next level.”
While the NFL Draft will be held virtually this year, it still won’t take anything away from Young, who decided to forego his senior season and enter the draft.
“I’m very excited, man. Blood, sweat and tears … I started the game when I was six years old,” he said. “To work hard for this one moment is real exciting and I’m blessed to be in this position.”
