Andre Iguodala shares hilarious Steph Curry-Draymond Green story on podcast

“Draymond is gonna be so mad at me.”

When a story starts like that, you know it’s going to be good. Especially when it’s coming from Andre Iguodala.

The sage Warriors veteran has joined his teammate Draymond Green in the podcast hosting ranks, debuting a new show “Point Forward” with co-host and former NBA player Evan Turner on Wednesday. In the premiere episode, Iguodala and Turner held an entertaining and wide-ranging interview with Steph Curry. The two Warriors teammates chopped it up about Curry’s career, off-the-court interests and did a random Q&A where Steph said his goal is to have a net worth of $500 million, among other revealing things.

At one point, Iguodala, Curry and Turner started talking about Steph’s “supreme, irrational confidence” and Andre shared a hilarious story about an in-game interaction between Draymond and Steph. As Iguodala remembers, the Dubs were in Portland, perhaps for a playoff game. Steph had missed the previous couple of games and was trying to find a rhythm.

“He hadn’t got into his groove yet, you were 2-for-12 or whatever it is, right?” Iguodala said. “Draymond started getting Draymond, ‘Ay, man. It’s the Warriors. This the Steph Curry Show but it ain’t just Steph Curry. It’s the Warriors.’ I’m, like, ’Draymond, chill, man, let him shoot it out.’ He’s like, ‘Nah, G, we working hard out here, too.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, fam, but he’s gonna get it. … Let him and Klay do his thing.’”

Iguodala tried to talk Green off the ledge, but then …

“Steph took another shot and [Draymond] going crazy,” Iguodala said. “You know how it is with Draymond, he can be going crazy and we look at each other, like, ‘Yo, who he yelling at?’ Because we don’t know. He’s loud.”

According to Iguodala, Draymond then told Steph, “Dang, you took a bad shot.”

“And [Steph] looked at [Draymond], like, ‘Yeah, Imma shoot it again,’” Iguodala said. “If you coulda saw my body language when he said that. He was like, ‘Yeah I’m about to shoot the next one, too.’ My whole body was like, ‘Yes! Let him know!’ And we on the same team! Like, ‘Yeah, that’s what the f–k I’m talking about. Shoot it every single time.’ Then like two minutes later he went and scored 15 straight and the game was over.”

Lmao. Epic story from Iguodala. Check out he audio here:

You always hear about how Draymond is the ultimate competitor and Curry has infallible confidence, so this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object.

Iguodala is still working back from knee issues that have contributed to his recent stint of unavailability, as he has played six minutes in the past 21 contests. He is out for Thursday night’s game at the Denver Nuggets and has played in just 26 of 66 games so far.

At least he’s working on his podcast chops and came across as a natural in the first episode. The peer-to-peer aspect of these player-driven podcasts is fascinating and unlocks a real conversation at a level players can’t reach with traditional media members. The shared NBA experience and recollection of memorable on-court moments lead to some great content.

The entire episode is highly recommended, but you can hear this conversation at the 48:00 mark here.
