Warriors forward Draymond Green enjoyed a festive weekend in Malibu, marrying actress Hazel Renee in a wedding ceremony attended by LeBron James, Seth and Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Jayson Tatum, Rich Paul, Juan Toscano-Anderson, DaBaby and Roddy Ricch, among other celebrity guests.
It looked like everyone was having a phenomenal time, especially James, who let his hair down at the reception, cutting loose on the dancefloor with his manager and longtime business partner, Maverick Carter. A known wine and tequila connoisseur, James no doubt poured himself a healthy glass of liquid courage, though his giggling fit would suggest he also took advantage of Draymond’s other amenities, including a full-service weed bar complete with dozens of hand-rolled cigars.
The guests got three different custom strains to choose from -- Happily Ever After (Gelato x Kush Mintz), Hazel Haze (Biscotti x Zkittlez) and All Day Day (OG).
As cannabis culture loses its stigma, athletes have become increasingly transparent in their relationship with weed, doing little to hide their recreational use. The NBA has no plans to resume testing for marijuana (they stopped during the COVID pandemic), especially with pot now legal, at least in some form, in a majority of states. While it will certainly take some getting used to, marijuana’s rise to mainstream acceptance is likely here to stay. Kevin Durant, one of the most visible and outspoken weed advocates in all of sports, has invested heavily in the cannabis industry, recognizing its untapped potential and room for growth.
Meanwhile, the Warriors have had their fingerprints all over this offseason, from their raucous parade in downtown San Francisco to Curry’s subsequent hosting stint at last month’s ESPY Awards. In that time, we’ve seen the defending NBA champs down plenty of drinks, taking a summer-long victory lap years in the making. We won’t know the Warriors’ full 2022-23 slate until Wednesday’s schedule release, though Shams Charania has already reported they’ll host LeBron’s Lakers on Opening Night (October 18th).
