Jordan Poole clears protocols, unlikely to play vs. Nuggets

Warriors guard Jordan Poole has been cleared from the NBA's health and safety protocols but is unlikely to play in Tuesday night's game against the Denver Nuggets, according to coach Steve Kerr. The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania first reported the news Monday afternoon.

"He's not home yet," Kerr told reporters Monday evening. "We'll see him hopefully tomorrow. I would not expect him to play tomorrow. But it's all going to be determined over the next few days to a week, as he gets back with the team, finally, and is able to work out. Our training staff can make that assessment."

While Andrew Wiggins also cleared from protocols Monday and practiced with the team, Kerr said Poole could have a longer runway in his recovery after being quarantined in a Boston hotel room.

"All that stuff is private based on the protocol," Kerr said. "I think you guys know that he was in Boston for the last 10 days. Everything else I can't really divulge."

The Warriors have gone 4-1 without Poole, who is the team’s third-leading scorer behind Steph Curry and Wiggins.

Poole has matched the rising expectations that preceded his 2021-22 campaign. Though he has been inconsistent, Poole is averaging 17.9 points and 2.6 made 3-pointers in 28 games while starting alongside Curry in the backcourt. His return would take a big load off Curry’s shoulders in terms of offensive production.

Other Warriors in health and safety protocols include Damion Lee, Moses Moody and Draymond Green. Golden State has only signed one 10-day hardship replacement player, elevating guard Quinndary Weatherspoon from the G League Santa Cruz Warriors.
