Steph Curry on track to scrimmage with Warriors Thursday

Steph Curry looks like he’s moving around well as he recovers from a left foot sprain.

Four weeks have passed since Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart rolled him up while diving for a loose ball. Curry was spotted shooting at Wednesday’s Warriors practice facility in San Francisco and appeared to be moving around well.

According to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Curry is on track to scrimmage Thursday before being re-evaluated before Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. PT tip-off against the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

“He practiced fully with the team today,” Kerr told reporters Wednesday. “We didn’t have a scrimmage, but we did some situational drills and he took in part in everything. I talked to him afterwards and he said he felt pretty good. Now we gotta see how he feels tomorrow. We’ll re-evaluate tomorrow, but I’d say right now that it’s looking good that he’ll scrimmage tomorrow and then we’ll take the next step.”

Curry missed the final 12 games of the regular season but is expected to return if he recovers well from Thursday’s scrimmage. Curry’s teammates offered some insight as to how he looked.

"He looked like Steph,” Gary Payton II said. “So that’s a good sign."

Well, at least Payton got a good look at Curry.

"He’s on the starting group and I'm on the bum unit,” veteran Andre Iguodala quipped, “so I was just focused on my guys. I really wasn’t paying too much attention. ... Hopefully he’ll be able to get out there with us."

Iguodala has jokes, but he’s serious about his team’s postseason preparation, especially when it comes to serving as a mentor for teammates who have never been to the playoffs.

“Trying to lead by example and be more focused and intent surrounding everything that we do around the basketball court. Just trying to feed them that type of energy and hopefully they pick up on it. Because come the first two, three minutes – they’ll feel it.”
