Steph Curry has forged many relationships with fans throughout his 13-year career with the Warriors, but the connection he shares with Riley Morrison is special.
Back in 2018, then 9-year-old Riley sent a handwritten letter to Steph, asking why his Curry 5 shoes weren’t available for girls. On International Women’s Day in 2019 a few months later, girls editions of the kicks were released, with design input from Riley on the insole.
This past weekend in Lake Tahoe, Curry stopped by for a quick chat and picture.
Great stuff from Steph, who continues to be a champion of advancing women’s sports. In fact, he even wrote his thesis paper on advancing gender equity through sports.
Three years ago, ahead of the girls sneaker release, Steph surprised Riley with an appearance during an interview with CBS.
“It really built up my confidence,” Riley told CBS. “At the time, I wasn’t very confident, I was really shy. So this definitely helped.”
She also said she couldn’t describe how it felt to see her artwork being produced in Curry shoes.
“That’s good,” Curry told her. “It means you did something special.”
Kudos to Curry for continuing to be a great role model.
