Steph Curry tells Draymond Green he's 'very optimistic' about Game 1 return

Draymond Green continues to double-dip as a media mogul and primetime player with the NBA playoffs approaching.

The Volume debuted the latest “The Draymond Green Show” episode Thursday and it featured a lengthy Q&A with his superstar Warriors teammate Steph Curry. Steph missed the final 12 games of the regular season after Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart rolled on his left foot on March 16, leading to a ligament sprain.

It’s unclear when Green and Curry filmed their episode this week at Chase Center, but Steph gave an encouraging update about the possibility of his return for Saturday’s Game 1 of the first round against the Denver Nuggets. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. PT and you can hear whole series on 95.7 The Game.

“I also need to know this for my personal sanity as well,” Green asked. “How are you feeling as far as being ready to play this weekend?”

“The goal has always been Game 1,” Curry said. “But it’s all just dealing with the pain that comes with the injury that I had with my foot and the wear and tear that comes with an injury like that. The goal has always been Game 1 and the goal still remains Game 1. I’m very optimistic that it’ll be Game 1. Whatever that means. I just want to be available. We know what time of year it is.”

Sure, it’s not ideal for Steph to get re-acclimated without a runway before the playoffs, but he’s not like most players. His conditioning was in tip-top shape before his injury, though the ankle injury gives you concern he hasn’t been able to full sprint much over this month-long layoff.

Steph practiced fully with the Warriors Wednesday and is slated to scrimmage with the team Thursday morning. Golden State is expected to address the media in the early afternoon.

Then again, who wants to be the Nuggets right now? They have to feel like a gladiator in the Roman Coliseum awaiting an unknown beast to be released into the arena.

As has been well-documented, the championship trio of Draymond, Steph and Klay has only shared the floor together for 11 minutes through five quarters of action together this season. We still don’t know how Andrew Wiggins fits in with the puzzle. Andre Iguodala is healthy and Jordan Poole is on the verge of stardom.

A lot has changed since Klay tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 Finals, the last time the Warriors appeared in the playoffs.

“We ain’t been in the playoffs for two years,” Curry said. “It’s kinda weird to think about that.”

“Yes it is,” Green said while shaking his head.

“I’m so freaking juiced,” Curry said, “because I know how much I love that environment. First time in this building which should be interesting. I don’t wanna miss none of it. That’s the goal. It would be hard-pressed for anything to keep me out of that, but we’ll see.”
