We could be seeing Steph Curry (left leg injury) return to the Warriors in a matter of days.
On Wednesday afternoon, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Steph could rejoin the Dubs on their upcoming three-game road trip, which begins Sunday at the Los Angeles Lakers and also includes dates against the Oklahoma City Thunder (Tuesday) and Memphis Grizzlies (Thursday). The Warriors also offered an official update and said Steph is making good progress and is back to scrimmaging.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr provided more context about Steph’s recovery on his weekly appearance with 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto” on Wednesday.
“We’re excited about Steph and whenever it happens,” Kerr told Ray Ratto and Whitey Gleason (filling in for Damon Bruce). “He's doing well. He'll scrimmage again tomorrow and see how he responds and how he’s doing. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. In the meantime our guys are doing a great job of keeping us afloat and racking up some wins. Amazingly, we went from 10th to fifth in the last 24 hours.”
The Warriors have gone 5-4 in their nine most recent games without Curry after going 6-5 when he was out with a shoulder subluxation earlier this season. Golden State mounted a fourth-quarter comeback on Sunday before turning a 23-point deficit into an 18-point win on Tuesday.
“We are seeing our team establish some grit and some chemistry and a little bit of momentum here,” Kerr said. “And that’s exciting. Hopefully this recent defensive play will continue.”
Without his Splash Brother Curry, Klay Thompson has been absolutely on fire, carrying the Warriors to wins on multiple occasions and hitting 12 3-pointers in two separate games. Beyond that, Klay is flashing his leadership skills and passion on the court to a level that we haven’t really seen before.
“We’re getting a great version of Klay Thompson,” Kerr said. “I think this is the best he’s looked in the year and a half since he returned, or whatever it is, 14 months. A lot of really positive signs.”
