Golden State Warriors radio play-by-play announcer Tim Roye has been named National Sports Media Association (NSMA) 2022 California Sportscaster of the Year, it was announced. The annual award, selected by NSMA members in each state, honors excellence in the industry while passing along knowledge and history through the generations.
Roye, currently in his 28th season of handling the play-by-play duties for all Warriors radio broadcasts on the club’s flagship station, 95.7 The Game FM, and the Warriors Radio Network, has called the action for the Warriors’ four most recent NBA Championships, a historic 73-win campaign and five-straight trips to the NBA Finals. In addition to his play-by-play duties, Roye also continues to host the Warriors’ pregame and postgame shows. Overall, this is his 33rd year of working NBA play-by-play.
In recent years, Roye has performed television baseball play-by-play work for the Oakland A’s and Sacramento Rivercats, television play-by-play for Cal Football, and radio play-by-play for Stanford Football. In the past, he has also served as an auto racing analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area, pre-and-postgame host for the Sacramento Kings and a correspondent on the Arizona Cardinals Radio Network.
A graduate of Utica College in New York, Roye was inducted into the Utica College Hall of Fame in 2013, earning the Lifetime Achievement honor. He is also a member of the SUNY Utica Hall of Fame. The Ray Simon Institute for Public Relations and Journalism named him the 2021 Outstanding Public Relations/Journalism Alumnus at Utica College for his professional achievements.
Roye will be honored during the NSMA Awards Weekend, held in June in Winston-Salem, NC.
