As the pressure mounted during Steph Curry’s chase of Ray Allen’s all-time 3-point record, Steve Kerr wished he had a mulligan.
Back on Dec. 8 – which was only last Wednesday but seems like an eternity ago – Curry entered a home game against the Portland Trail Blazers needing 16 3-pointers to break Allen’s career mark of 2,973. Kerr and Curry added fuel to the fire when they half-joked he could do it against Portland, though both later admitted they regretted their statements.
In the four games since, Curry’s pursuit overshadowed the Warriors and their NBA-best record. Kerr joined 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto” for his weekly appearance Wednesday and said there is a “sense of relief” now that Curry has accomplished the feat. You can listen to the full interview above.
“I think we haven’t moved the ball as well, our assists were down,” Kerr told hosts Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. “I just think we were a little impatient as a group. That was maybe wearing on Steph a little bit. It’s good that we’ve got it behind us, he’s got it behind him and we can just focus on getting back to playing at a high level and continuing to try to win games.”

Golden State went 3-1 over the past four games. But, as Kerr noted, the Warriors averaged just 23.5 assists per game during the stretch, down from the season average of 28.1 per game. When the Warriors have lost this season, it’s usually because of offensive struggles.
“That’s the great thing with this year’s team, is the defense is there every night,” Kerr said. “I’m confident now that we’re going to find our offense, it’ll come back around. I do think the record has kind of been looming over us. Maybe that had an effect.”
