No one knows what the future holds for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, but if he is traded, there seems to be a strong likelihood he could end up in the AFC West.
This would mean Rodgers, a three-time MVP and future Hall of Famer, will be in the same division and competing against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs twice a year.
That is a challenge Mahomes is more than happy to welcome.
“If he came to the AFC West, it would make it a little tougher for us but we’re up for the challenge,” Mahomes told Bleacher Report at the 15 and Mahomies Aloha Classic. “It would be awesome to have that challenge two times a year. It would be a great opportunity. He’s a heck of a football player. He’s been doing it for a long time that I watched play and learned a lot from.”
Mahomes and Rodgers have yet to actually face one another. When the Packers played the Chiefs in 2019, Mahomes was out with an injury.
There are a lot of similarities between the way Mahomes and Rodgers play, and while the much younger Mahomes enters the prime of his career, Rodgers has still shown he can play at an elite level, winning his third MVP last season.
Having the two of them in the same division, playing twice a year, would be some of the most anticipated games during the course of the regular season.
Of course, with Rodgers in the division it would make Mahomes’ lofty goal of going 20-0 next season a bit tougher.
Even if Rodgers remains in Green Bay, the two are likely to see one another next season any way.
The Packers are scheduled to play the Chiefs in Week 9 at Arrowhead Stadium.
Whenever Mahomes and Rodgers meet, though, it will be sure to draw plenty of attention from NFL fans everywhere.
