With the 49ers about to return to action against the Green Bay Packers, the ole discourse is discoursing.

Amy Trask, the former CEO of the Raiders, and host of the What The Football podcast, made some comments that were eyebrow raising.

She said: “4 games, 8 QB’s. We have 7 terrific QB’s and Brock Purdy.” She also went on to say that Purdy is a good quarterback, but that he's not in the category of the other seven.

After Willard and Dibs criticized Trask for the take, they had her on to share her opinion.

Trask admitted that it may have been harsh, but didn't change the stance.

For clarity, these are the seven "terrific" quarterbacks, all of whom threw for fewer yards and touchdowns, and had a lower quarterback rating (both types of QB rating), EPA per play and adjusted net yards per attempt than Purdy. A breakdown of his MVP case can be found here. The QBs:

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs
Josh Allen, Bills
CJ Stroud, Texans
Lamar Jackson, Ravens
Jared Goff, Lions
Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers
Jordan Love, Packers

Here was Trask's response to Willard when asked if Mayfield is better than Purdy:

"I think Baker Mayfield is doing what he's doing with far less talent around him than Brock has around him," Trask said. "Now maybe I didn't explain that, although I do think I was very clear that I think Brock is a very good quarterback and that I think he's surrounded by a tremendous, tremendous cast that the 49ers, John Lynch and the 49ers, have put together. So when I say that I think Baker Mayfield is doing more. It's because I think he's doing more with far less."

Dibs followed up to ask about the distinction between the rest being "terrific" compared to Purdy. Trask acknowledged some of the other quarterbacks may not actually be "terrific."

"I think it's a fair point you make that 'terrific' may have been an overstatement as to some," Trask said. "That's a fair criticism.

"Again, I do think Brock is good. I do think Patrick Mahomes, terrific, Josh Allen, terrific, Lamar Jackson. Those three are super-duper, terrific. It may have been an overstatement about some of the others.

"But no, I don't think it's a demerit. I absolutely don't. But I do think that if you are building a team and you don't have the cast that the 49ers have so marvelously assembled, then having a quarterback who can do a lot with less is something to consider."

Trask said she still probably puts Purdy on the bottom of the list.

"When I look at the eight quarterbacks, I don't put Brock at the top of that eight," Trask said. "I probably do put him at the bottom of the eight. Does that mean I'm right? Does that mean everyone has to agree with me? Of course not. This is the fun of sports. But we're supposed to be able to disagree agreeably."
