The Los Angeles Rams have become America’s latest sports super team.
Just days after acquiring linebacker Von Miller in a blockbuster trade, the Rams on Thursday won the OBJ Sweepstakes, reportedly agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran Odell Beckham Jr. after he forced his way out of the Cleveland Browns organization.
NFL reporter Jordan Schultz shared details of OBJ contract Friday morning, saying Beckham’s final two suitors were the Rams and Green Bay Packers, who are both 7-2.
A few weeks ago, long before the Los Angeles Rams acquired Von Miller and signed Odell Beckham Jr., 49ers safety Jimmie Ward had a notable question about his NFC West foe. When discussing the fallout of the 49ers’ decision to trade DeForest Buckner, Ward wondered out loud about the Rams’ ability to keep pulling off massive deals.
“Couldn’t keep everybody,” Ward said. “Well, maybe. I don’t know. Probably could have made it work somehow. The Rams keep doing it. I don’t know how. You know where they’re getting all this money from? But I don’t know. Like I said, it’s the business side of it.”

The bookkeepers at the Rams are working wonders while assembling this roster, which is still under cap by about $1.25 million, according to Spotrac. The 49ers are under the cap by $2.36 million and Beckham will have a $1.25 million cap hit, including a $750,000 base salary and $500,000 signing bonus. By Schultz’s report, Beckham’s contract also includes up to $3 million in incentives.
Money wasn’t the issue for San Francisco, but the 49ers’ 3-5 record probably was.
According to Schultz, Beckham Jr. is aiming to make his Rams debut in Week 10 on Monday Night Football against the 49ers in Santa Clara. NFL media's Ian Rapoport reported that Beckham planned to fly to Los Angeles Friday morning to take a physical and sign the deal
Rams coach Sean McVay sounded optimistic that Miller will make his Rams debut Monday as he works through an ankle injury.
Oddsmakers have the Rams as 3.5-point favorites as of Friday afternoon, according to Vegas Insider.
