Peter King thinks 49ers should have lofty asking price for Jimmy Garoppolo

For now, Jerry Jones has made it clear that the Cowboys aren’t interested in adding a veteran quarterback to hold down the fort while Dak Prescott is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a thumb fracture.

Many were quick to connect the dots between 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Dallas, but it appears San Francisco will hold on to him as Trey Lance’s backup. Peter King of NBC Sports joined 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto” Tuesday to explain why we can't gain much information from the Mud Bowl this past weekend between the 49ers and Bears.

King also shared why he thinks the Cowboys might be hesitant to try and acquire Jimmy G via trade.

“When you think about what it would take to get Garoppolo – if I were the 49ers, I wouldn’t even listen unless the offer was for a (second-round pick),” King told hosts Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. “And if you’re the Cowboys, is it worth a (second-round pick) to trade a guy who will play three or four games? Probably isn’t."

King is setting a lofty bar for Garoppolo, who’s value will only seem to diminish as the weeks wear on. If a second-round pick is what the 49ers are indeed seeking, Garoppolo’s only way out of town might be a season-ending injury elsewhere, which no one wants to see.

King said he’s not surprised hearing that the Cowboys aren’t interested in pursuing Garoppolo.

“What I think that it means is that there’s an understanding, how difficult it is to come in and learn a brand new offense and get ready to play in a matter of days.” King said. “I wouldn’t have been shocked if they did it, but they did it, it would have been a sign that Dak Prescott would have been out a lot longer than they had said.”
