Trey Lance hosts high school alma mater at training camp in Minnesota

Not too long ago, Trey Lance was a star at Marshall high school, about three hours southwest of Minneapolis.

On Thursday, Lance welcomed more than 100 players, coach and staff from his alma mater and took a photo with them following a joint practice with the Vikings.

Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group shared video of Lance’s interaction with the team. The Marshall High Twitter account also shared photos from the visit.

Much has been made about Lance's lack of experience since high school, as he has attempted just 379 in-game passes the last three seasons combined at FCS North Dakota State (328) and with the 49ers (71) as a rookie. Now the offense is his in his second season.

Earlier this week, Lance told reporters about the emotions he had while returning home.

“That was always the dream,” Lance said of becoming an NFL starter. “It happened fast but I’m excited to be here. Kinda obviously settled in. Getting into the rhythm of this year. .. I was excited to (return to Minnesota) for sure, to see family, see friends. But it’s work at this point. These two days of work should be awesome for us and Saturday as well.”

Coach Kyle Shanahan has reiterated that Lance won’t see any game action on Saturday, citing the short turnaround before the preseason finale next Thursday against the Houston Texans. So local fans likely won’t be able to see Lance with the 49ers in Minnesota, but at least he got to share this special moment with his squad.
