The Giants’ Jekyll & Hyde act continued on Monday afternoon in Chicago. San Francisco opened up the season by going 1-2 in The Bronx, with two shutout losses sandwiching Saturday's solid 7-5 win.
The Giants responded to Sunday’s sinking loss by busting out the lumber Monday, belting four home runs in the fourth inning and seven overall, en route to a rousing 12-3 victory.
Michael Conforto and Thairo Estrada went back-to-back to start off the tater parade, before Mike Yastrzemski and David Villar went back-to-back later in the inning. It marked the first time since 2011 that the Giants hit four fingers in the same frame.
The Giants saved some more fireworks for the ninth inning, as Villar hit the first grand slam of his career and his second homer of the day.
Outfielder Bryce Johnson followed that up with the third back-to-back sequence of the afternoon, as he hit a solo shot to right field.
Things got so bad that White Sox infielder Hanser Alberto had to come in and make a relief appearance to save the Chicago bullpen. Alberto is actually used to this sort of mop-up duty, as he appeared in 10 lopsided games with the Dodgers last season.
This season could be a maddening one for Giants fans, as they hit seven bombs the day after getting shutout.
