7 Moments From This Year’s Emmys That Have People Talking

The Emmys came and went, and things got weird.

While there was no impromptu making out at this year’s show, there were plenty of moments that still have people buzzing today.

A recap of last night’s ceremony is as much about absences as who was present. The show had no hosts, a “Barry” writer who couldn’t attend cracked us up with her own interactive red carpet, and Jenny McCarthy forgot to carry the 1 in her math.

But don’t worry -- like pretty much any cultural convo of the last ten years, there was plenty of “Game of Thrones” and Kardashians.

These are moments from last night’s awards that still have people talking today.

Brienne of Tarth was our savior

Even though all the celebs were killing it on the purple carpet, "Game of Thrones" star Gwendoline Brooks rose above the fold with an outfit that will make you say, "Holy!" As one Twitter user captioned a video of Brienne arriving to the show, "Everybody say amen to gwendoline christie."

HI EVERYONE. I won't have time to walk the press line at the #Emmys this year, so I'm leaving my red carpet look up to you. Would you like to say you dressed an awards show nominee? Just edit your design into these @kimnewmoney photos. High res link in bio! pic.twitter.com/SsBJQhdwBJ

A 'Barry' writer let fans dress her for the ceremony (and she wasn't even there)

A writer for the award-winning "Barry" said she "didn't have time" to hit up the pre-show last night. Instead, Emily DRESS ME FOR THE EMMYs Heller, as she changed her name on Twitter, created her own press line and gave fans a chance to Choose Their Own Adventure with her outfit. Heller posed in a skin-tight green-screen suit and told fans to edit their designs onto her. Hot fits included an avocado, a US women's soccer jersey, and her own face.

There was awkward audience laughter when Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner said their family tells their stories "unfiltered and unscripted." Yikes. #Emmys2019 pic.twitter.com/H6XH3g6L1L

The crowd laughed when Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner called themselves 'real'

Before presenting the award for Outstanding Competition Series, the crowd erupted in laughter after Kardashian West began, "Our family knows firsthand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves." Jenner had a deer-in-headlights vibe but still managed to finish her line, saying, "Telling their stories unfiltered and unscripted."

Jenny McCarthy told Christina Applegate, one year her senior, that she wanted to be her when she grew up

During a pre-show interview, Jenny McCarthy told Christina Applegate that she wanted to be her when she grew up. The rub? Applegate is just one year older than McCarthy. She also asked Applegate, who's been nominated twice for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Samantha Who?, if she's ever been nominated for that category. Sometimes you can't avoid math gaffes in the frenzy of the red carpet.

Peter Dinklage was bleeped during his speech

The "Game of Thrones" star showed love to the show's hardworking crew during his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. How hardworking? In a bit where Dinklage's Tyrion really came through, he said, "Ten years of absolute sweat, but 10 years of the most talented, motherf—ing people." Dinklage then stated, "Hey, it's over, I don't care." The network definitely did, bleeping the word out.

Thomas Lennon takes a jab at Felicity Huffman

In a juicy, shade-laden award show moment, Thomas Lennon really let the commentary fly. "The producers have asked me to give a special shout out to any of our previous lead actress winners who are watching tonight from prison," he said, referencing former Emmy winner Felicity Huffman who was recently sentenced to prison for two weeks for her role in a massive college admissions scandal. "Hopefully those two weeks are gonna fly right by. Keep your chin up."
