Another stimulus check could be headed your way if you’ve recently submitted your 2020 taxes — even if you’ve already gotten paid as part of the latest round of federal relief.
They’re called "plus-up payments," and the Internal Revenue Service is processing them now.
Americans eligible for these "plus-up payments" have already received stimulus funds in March based on their 2019 tax returns "but are eligible for a new or larger payment based on their recently processed 2020 tax returns," the IRS said.
There are a few situations that apply.
"These ‘plus-up’ payments could include a situation where a person's income dropped in 2020 compared to 2019, or a person had a new child or dependent on their 2020 tax return, and other situations," the agency explained.
Previous rounds of stimulus payments were calculated based on 2019 tax returns. Eligible Americans can check the status of their stimulus payment using the IRS’ online "Get My Payment" tool.
Last week, the IRS announced the end of a long stimulus delay for the nation’s veterans, elderly and disabled who hadn’t yet gotten the latest $1,400 payments because the U.S. Social Security Administration was late in transmitting recipients’ information. Many of those payments will be sent electronically and received by Wednesday.
This third round of stimulus payments amounts to more than $10 billion to four million people.
