According to police, the bug best known for its humming song, the cicada, is responsible for something more nefarious: a single-car crash in the East End Neighborhood of Cincinnati Monday evening.
The cicada flew through an open window of the driver’s car, striking his face, causing him to crash into a utility pole totaling his car, according to the Cincinnati Police Department’s Twitter.
The driver sustained minor injuries due to the crash and was able to walk away safely. However, the perpetrator of the impact, the bug, was found dead on the car’s floor. RIP.
How do we know the cicada in question was "amorous." It was part of Brood X, which emerge from the ground every 17 years to mate.
This crash is the first significant issue caused by a Cicada this year, according to a statement from Cincinnati’s social media director, Sgt. Eric Franz, given to NPR.
Police are advising residents to keep their windows closed to avoid similar accidents and run-ins with the bug.
