Nearly 25 years after first hitting theaters, the original cast of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is getting ready to pass the terror torch to a new generation.
On Friday, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe reunited in a virtual panel at New York Comic Con in support of the upcoming Amazon reboot series of the 1997 teen slasher film, reported People.
The four OG stars surprised the cast of the new series, who thought they were getting questions from fans instead.
Prinze Jr., 45, who played male lead Ray Bronson, appeared first in a remote video.
"What's up you guys, it's Freddie and I welcome all of you as the new generation of I Know What You Did Last Summer," he said. "I know you guys are gonna do a great job repping it."
Prinze’s real-life wife Sarah Michelle Gellar, 44, chimed in next with a reference to her beauty queen character, Helen Shivers, waking up to find her hair was cut by the film’s killer.
"Hi, I'm Sarah Michelle, and my question is, how do you handle a killer haircut or any other curveball a killer might throw your way?" she asked the new cast.
Ryan Phillippe, who played Barry Cox, greeted the young stars and made note of his character’s tragic fate in the film.

"Hi, this is Ryan Phillippe, and I just want to say I can't wait for the series, and I know this new cast is going to absolutely kill it... or be killed. I was," the 47-year-old said. "If I learned anything, it's that you always have to be prepared to run for your life, especially if you have a car chasing you, and you're on foot.”
Love Hewitt, the film’s main star, was the last to appear and wished the cast luck while also recreating her iconic line from the film.
“I just want to say how excited I am that 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is finally becoming a TV series," the 42-year-old actress said. "If they had asked me years ago what I thought about it, I would have of course said, 'What are you waiting for, huh?! What Are you waiting for?!'"
Released on October 17, 1997, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” went on to earn more than $126 million at the box office. Following its success, Hewitt and Prinze Jr. returned for the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.”
The direct-to-video third installment, 2006’s “I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” did not feature any of the original cast.
Amazon Prime Video's reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” premieres October 15.
