Police are searching for a man accused of stabbing a Jack in the Box manager after being asked to put on a face mask inside the restaurant.
The incident occurred at a Jack in the Box location in League City, Texas on Wednesday, according to CNN.
Police identified the suspect as 53-year-old James Schulz and have issued a warrant for his arrest for the stabbing.
Schulz allegedly entered the restaurant without a mask and was asked to put one on or use the drive-thru.
Police said he "belligerently refused" to cooperate and accused restaurant employees of refusing to serve him because he is homeless.
Schulz then allegedly ran behind the manager and tackled him to the floor stabbing him three times in the arm and torso with a pocket knife, police said.
While co-workers ran to the manager’s aid, Schulz made an exit and fled on his bicycle.
The injured manager was transported to an area hospital, treated for the stab wounds, and released.
"It's a very polarizing situation," League City Police Chief Gary Ratliff said, per the outlet. "Where some folks don't believe that there should be masks and others do."
According to the police department’s Facebook post, authorities are still searching for Schulz, who is believed to be a transient.
"All I would ask is that people respect the opinions and the policies of these businesses,” Ratliff added. "You can refuse to do business at those locations, or whatever it is you choose to do, but there's no reason to resort to aggressive behavior like this.”
