"That has been the probably the toughest journey of our lives," Montell says of his battle with cancer. "And we've been through some things."
"I can say that, early detection helped save lives. I'm an advocate for early detection and for screenings. I'm a two-time cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in January of 2024. I had a radical prostatectomy surgery in November of 2024, and then about nine months later in 2025, some cancer re-emerged in my prostate bed and in my left lymph node, so I had to do a radiation proton therapy."
"Then, on Christmas Day of 2025, that was when I got my call from Doctor Ashesh Jani telling me that I am PSA 0.01, which is undetected," he adds. "PSA is prostate specific antigen level for men out there that don't understand what a PSA is, and when I say you need to have regular checkups and screenings, a prostate check now with the advancement of medicine is a blood test. People have this stigma about, 'I'm not going. Nobody put their finger in me. I'm not doing this, this or the other.' It is a blood test, but they won't give it to you unless you ask for it."
