On a brand new episode of C'Mon Son! The Podcast, Ed Lover wants to make Hip-Hop fun again by doing something he’s never done before.
LISTEN NOW: Ep. #269: Make Hip-Hop Fun Again!
Debating with Dan Tanna if the current state Hip-Hop is in trouble, based off Bow Wow’s comments to Ed at the BET Awards that “today’s Hip-Hop is trash,” Ed explained, “there is no Biz Markie, there is no Redman. Remember how much fun we used to have with them, nobodies fun, who’s fun?”
Dan brought up Armani White, comparing him to Ludacris, to which Ed agreed, “he’s dope”
“That’s what’s missing in Hip-Hop,” Ed continued. Taking a beat to acknowledge that the younger generation is allowed to have and love their own artists, noting, “you’re Hip-Hop stars should not be mine,” calling out Drake, Pusha T, and Kanye as examples. That being said, Ed expressed “there’s no fun in that music,” asking, “where is the fun?”
In the current state of TikTok rappers reigning supreme and low frequency music taking over hype tracks, Ed and Dan misses the days of fun Hip-Hop music. “Maybe we should just create a space where those young artists can just come and have fun, and maybe we’ll change their vibration," Dan suggested. “Maybe we need to lead them," he added, “and show them what that looks like… We gotta take it back to the good times.”
Per usual Ed also talked up the top stories of the week, and celebrated Busta Rhymes and his BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Listen to it all and more in the episode above, and follow along with Audacy's celebration of the first 50 years of Hip-Hop at audacy.com/hiphopmade.
C'Mon Son! The Podcast is Hip Hop Hall of Fame inductee and Yo! MTV Raps legend Ed Lover's take on pop culture. Raw, rugged, and unfiltered, this podcast gives listeners a break from "the expected," and will leave them wondering (while laughing hysterically), "what the f*** is wrong with Ed Lover?"
