The Marvel franchise is introducing a gay teen superhero in honor of Captain America’s 80th Anniversary with a limited series titled “The United States of Captain America.”

The special series introduces Marvel’s newest LGBTQ+ hero Aaron Fischer, Comic Book Resources reported.

The company press release stated that the series will "see Steve Rogers teaming up with Captain Americas of the past -- Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, and John Walker -- on a road trip across America to find his stolen shield."

Writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Dale Eaglesham will be joined by a diverse new team to create the new version of Captain America in every issue.

Superhero Aaron Fischer, who is described as "a fearless teen who stepped up to protect fellow runaways and the unhoused," will make his debut in June in honor of Pride Month.

"Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a better life," writer Joshua Trujillo explained. "He stands for the oppressed, and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers and helps inspire the next generation of heroes."

Aaron Fischer will be the first of five versions of Captain America introduced in the series, the outlet reported. Each version of Captain America will come from different walks of life, all working to "defend their communities."

"I want to thank Editor Alanna Smith and Joshua Trujillo very much for asking me to create Aaron," artist Jan Bazaldua said. "I really enjoyed designing him, and as a transgender person, I am happy to be able to present an openly gay person who admires Captain America and fights against evil to help those who are almost invisible to society.”

Bazaldua continued, “While I was drawing him, I thought, well, Cap fights against super-powerful beings and saves the world almost always, but Aaron helps those who walk alone in the street with problems that they face every day. I hope people like the end result!"
