The NFL Network released its annual “Top 100 Players” series over the weekend, which always brings out some debate over the rankings.
The one ranking that drew much attention this year was Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson at 18.
Watson is currently facing 22 civil lawsuits of alleged sexual misconduct which has prompted an investigation from the Houston Police Department as well as the NFL.
But the players voted on the rankings, which left the NFL Network in an uncomfortable position to address such a sensitive issue and ultimately had to awkwardly dance around the allegations during a Watson video montage.
“Nobody knows when Deshaun Watson will take the field again,” the narrator says as the video begins. “His future is uncertain. But his talent is unquestioned.”
Despite the allegations and NFL’s internal investigation, Watson remains active and eligible to play, currently with the Texans at training camp.
However, Watson has hardly been a participant at training camp, which is also due to the fact that he requested a trade from the team earlier this offseason before the damning allegations surfaced.
It seems as if nobody knows what to do with Watson and the video on NFL Network is just the latest example of how incredibly awkward things have gotten in the handling of his situation.
