Charvarius Ward signs 3-year deal with San Francisco 49ers

Charvarius Ward's time in Kansas City has come to an end. Ward, an unrestricted free agent, signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday evening. The deal is reportedly worth up to $42 million:

After going undrafted in 2018, Ward signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys before being traded to Kansas City four months later. Since then, he appeared in 56 games for the Chiefs, starting 43 of them -- since his rookie season, Ward started in at least 12 games each year. During that span, he had 168 total tackles, 29 passes defended and four interceptions. Out of 98 cornerbacks with at least 300 coverage snaps, Ward had the 28th best coverage grade last season, according to Pro Football Focus. He's the second starter in last year's secondary to leave, as the team has also indicated they won't re-sign safety Tyrann Mathieu.
