Chiefs select SMU WR Rashee Rice in 2nd round, Oklahoma OT Wanya Morris in 3rd round of NFL Draft

The Chiefs got aggressive in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday evening to add another weapon for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City traded up in the second round to No. 55 overall, where it then selected 23-year-old SMU receiver Rashee Rice. The Chiefs acquired the pick from the Detroit Lions, to whom Kansas City sent the No. 63 overall pick, a fourth-round pick at No. 122 overall and a seventh-round pick at No. 249 overall. The Chiefs also received No. 194 overall in the sixth round from the Lions.

The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Rice led all FBS players with 112.9 receiving yards per game in 2022. He had 1.355 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns in 12 games while earning second-team All-American honors from the Associated Press.

In the third round, the Chiefs selected Oklahoma offensive tackle Wanya Morris at No. 92 overall. The 6-foot-5, 307-pound Morris was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022.

The NFL Draft continues in Kansas City on Saturday, when the fourth through seventh rounds will be conducted.
